Medical education, over a period of time, has evolved beyond discipline-based curriculum and traditional assessment methods. It is now evolving into competency based curriculum, student centered learning, continuous assessment and feedback.
The Department of Medical Education focuses on meeting the educational needs of the medical faculty by developing a pool of trained faculty members conversant with educational concepts, changes in curriculum practices, modern teaching and learning methodologies and skills and
assessment / evaluation tests The focus is also on educational theory and principles applied to implementation of student-centered approaches and structured assessment processes. For this purpose the emphasis is on interactive, practical and hands-on experience that raise awareness of and clarifies educational concepts on practices of medical education. Medical Education is fast becoming an important component of medical education and it is part of specialisation at post-graduate level.
