Pharmacology

Pharmacology

Pharmacology is an important field of medicine and to be a good physician, a doctor needs to have a sound knowledge of Pharmacology. In this department students are exposed to knowledge of medication, routes of administration, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, adverse and side effects of drugs, dosage and timing of administration. When a physician is talking about pharmacokinetics he is essentially interested in four main functions of drugs i.e. Absorption (through skin, intestines, mouth, blood etc); Distribution (spread of a chemical through organisms); Metabolism (conversion of medicines chemically inside the body into new substances); and Excretion (getting rid of waste chemicals from the body).

The Pharmacology Department has fully equipped laboratories for practical work and research. Well-designed models, neatly mounted specimen and extensive charts are available for reference purposes.
